On September 20, Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Council (CMIA) the 10th session was held in Yuelai International Conference Center. The Executive Chairman of the 10th CMIA is Mr. Michael Smith, CEO of ANZ Banking Group. Mayor Huang Qifan delivered the keynote speech at the meeting. Attending advisors of the meeting put forward a number of suggestions based on this year meeting’s theme “Chongqing in the Strategy of One Belt and One Road and the Yangtze River Economic Belt ”

Mr. Michael Smith also delivered a speech, saying in face of new opportunity and challenge China is experiencing a huge change. In an effort to cope with these challenges, Chinese government launched a series of new development strategies, including “ one belt and one road” initiative and the Yangtze River Economic Belt development plan. These approaches will further improve inland China’s opening up. As being the central city in western China, Chongqing will embrace greater opportunities for development. The 10th CMIA offered a high-end brainstorm on how Chongqing plays its role in China’s national strategy and seizes developing opportunities.

At the speech, Mayor Huang Qifan expressed thanks on behalf of Chongqing government to all the participants of 10-year-long CMIA. CMIA is a platform between Chongqing and the world, as Mayor Huang said, to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation. For the past decade, CMIA’s attending advisors have offered an abundance of suggestions covering a variety of fields such as new industrialization, informatization and urbanization which are very helpful for Chongqing’s opening up and development. Also, Mayor Huang Qifan introduced Chongqing’s achievements on economic development at the speech, saying Chongqing’s economy has been keeping a fast-paced growth, while its economic and industrial structures have become more balanced with an optimized investment structure resulting in greater profits for the investors.

Mentioning the “one belt one road” initiative, Mayor Huang said the Yangtze Economic Belt is a key part of “one belt one road” blueprint. Chongqing is now seriously implementing all plans relating to “one belt one road” program, expecting to play a greater role in “one belt one road” plan and the Yangtze River Economic Belt’s development. Recently, in order to seize this strategic opportunity, Chongqing government issued “ Policies on Implementing One Belt and One Road National Strategy and the Yangtze River Economic Belt Development Plan”, as a guideline to carry out the tasks relating to “one belt one road” and the Yangtze River Economic Belt development: to build Chongqing as a central city at the upper reaches of the Yangtze River; to build inland China’s international logistics channel based on Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe Railway; to build Chongqing as an inland frontier city for opening up to outside world; to develop industrial clusters and to develop advantageous and emerging industries; to build Chongqing as the financial center at the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.  Mayor Huang hopes this new round of development opportunities of Chongqing could be shared with attending advisors’ companies, as well as other investors.
